On November 21, 2023, the Launching Ceremony of the First International Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Design Competition was held at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU).

Prof. Dr. Lenka Kauerová - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Technical University of Ostrava, Prof. Milan Adamek - Rector of Tomas Bata University, Assoc. From TDTU, there were Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President, Dr. Dinh Hoang Bach - Director of the International Cooperation, Research and Training Institute, Dr. Phan Dao - Director of the European Cooperation Center, Dr. Pham Van Huy - Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Dr. Tran Thanh Phuong - Person-in-charge of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and hundreds of students.
This International Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Design Competition was co-founded by Ton Duc Thang University and amicable universities, including Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Tomas Bata University (Czech Republic), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, and Vietnam Aviation Academy.
This is a technological innovation competition for undergraduate students and PhD students at domestic and foreign universities. The first competition will be held in Ho Chi Minh City in June 2024. The following competitions will be held in the Czech Republic and other countries.
At the Launching Ceremony, the 2024 theme and competition rules unanimously approved by the founding members were Navigate and drop - Find the target and drop the object, with the aim of developing a drone system that allows the sensor module(s) to be dropped onto a target. Five targets will be created on the ground, each with a diameter of 100cm and increasing difficulty, such as smoke, steam, etc. The task of the Drone is dropping an object onto the target from a predetermined height with the highest possible accuracy upon impact. The total prize value of the competition is up to 6,000 USD.
The competition is organized to promote scientific research activities among students in the fields of electricity - electronics, information technology, artificial intelligence, etc. This is an opportunity for students to apply knowledge of model design, programming, AI, image analysis, teamwork skills into complete UAV research practice, as well as meet with scientists, experts in the field of Drone, and representatives from enterprises and sponsors. It helps students easily orient their future careers, connect with the expert community, and develop start-up opportunities. The competition is also a premise for domestic and foreign universities to exchange academics, expand research cooperation, form a joint research group on Drone, and strengthen cooperation in the field of science technology in general.
